    ABEL

The award-winning Advanced Broadband Enabled Learning (ABEL) Program transforms learning by connecting people.

Founded in 2002, ABEL is led and funded by Office of the Vice President, Research & Innovation at York University and the York Region District School Board (YRDSB). Since its inception, ABEL has developed a reputation for excellence and expertise across Canada, and has established national and international credibility as a leading authority on new modes of teaching, training, learning and collaboration.

    Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat

The Learning Connections program is made possible by a grant from the Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat (LNS), Ontario Ministry of Education.

Beginning in 2005, the LNS provided funding to create the Learning Connections program building upon the research and learning acquired from the Advanced Broadband Enabled Learning (ABEL) program.

By combining access to leading edge technology tools, professional learning opportunities both face-to-face and virtual with an active online virtual community of learners, LC leverages the best of both worlds providing the social context for learning in a virtual environment.

The Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat acknowledges the need for this personalized learning community to engage educators in 21st century learning opportunities that impacts upon effective classroom practice and student engagement.
